CANDLER - Edith Jervis Patterson, 96, formerly of 250 Cathey Road, died Saturday, June 1, 2002. Mrs. Patterson was born in Madison County, spent many of her early childhood years in Swain County and resided in Buncombe County for most of her adult life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elisha D. and Callie Payne Jervis her husband, Fred G. Patterson, who died in 1967 and a daughter, Freda, who died in 1941. Mrs. Patterson taught in the Swain County Public School System for 16 years prior to moving to Buncombe County in 1932. She was a member of Snow Hill United Methodist Church, where she taught the ladies Bible class for many years. She is survived by a daughter, Brenda Harrell and her husband, Odell, of Sanford, with whom Mrs. Patterson resided for most of the past seven years son, Jervis Daniel Patterson and his wife, Glenda, of Candler two grandchildren five stepgrandchildren eight step-great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The funeral services will be held Sunday at Snow Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Neil Haynes officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
