BIOGRAPHY:
Marzolph, Sr. (13) had three known sons. The middle son, Theobald Ostertag
(14) was bom in 1494 in Fischbach, Pfalz, Germany. He died sometime after 1538.
Theobald Ostertag, Jr. (17) was bom about 1529 in Fischbach and married NN about
1555 in the nearby village of Niederschletten, Pfalz, Germany. Theobald (17) died
around 1587 in Niederschlettenbach, Pfalz, Germany.
Theobald's (17) son Marsolph "Marx" Ostertag (18) was bom about 1560 in
Niederschlettenbach. He moved to Rumbach, Pfalz, Germany where he married Barbara
Jost in 1584. "Marx", like most ofthe Ostertags, seemed to have considerable stature and
influence in the communities where they lived. He was a lay magistrate, similar to
todays county councilman, in Amt Wegelnburg. "Marx" was a cartwright and innkeeper.
The Inn was likely inherited from his wife's parents (from Family Register, Vol. 1 1430-
1630, Rumbach and Schonau).
"The Thirty Years War (1618-1648) saw the demise of all Ostertag males bearing
the family sumame in Fischbach and Rumbach, so that anyone later with that last name in
the area, would descend from the Cleebourg scion or another branch not described in this

Marzolph's (18) daughter Margaret was bom 1605 in Rumbach, Pfalz, Germany.
Both her parents died before she was married to Christoph Neuhart on 18 July 1627. The
Neuhart line is covered in Chapter 2.
