John Thomas Cry, 98, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., passed away at Prestige Assisted Living Center on Saturday, April 25, 2015.
John was born on July 6, 1916, in Chattanooga, Tenn., to Wallace H. Cry, Sr. and Emma Hinsinger Cry.
He proudly served with the U.S. Navy for more than 23 years and retired at the rank of master chief. John was also employed for many years with civil service.
In 1954 John married the late Mary Joanne Suflita in San Diego, Calif. She passed away in 2010. They were married for more than 46 years.
He was an active member of Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church and was an outstanding shuffleboard player. John was well known in his neighborhood for his helpfulness to his many neighbors.
John is survived by his many nephews and nieces: Henry and Rita McGuffey of Nashville, Tenn., Don and Dorothy Hayko, Jim and Carol Morgan, Robert and Pamela Suflita of Binghamton, N.Y, Tom and Judy Rusk of Harrison, Texas, Wallace Hill Cry III and Darrilyn Cry on Henderson, Nev., Guy and Anne Morris, and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Hatfield Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 28. A graveside service with military honors will be the following day, Wednesday, April 29, at 10:00 a.m. at the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
