JOHN H. JENKINS CANTON
John Henry Jenkins, 78, of 894 Allen Farm Road, died Wednesday, July 24, 1996, at Haywood County Hospital. A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late William McKlnley and Alice Hutchins Jenkins. He retired from Champion International with 35 years of service. He was a Champion Old Timer and an Army World War II veteran, who served In the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the VFW 5198. He was a member, deacon and Sunday school teacher at Dutch Cove Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Irene Clontz Jenkins; son and daughter-in- law, Ed and Gloria Jenkins of Mills River; granddaughters, Gina Jenkins of Charleston, S.C, Jolle Jenkins of Mills River; sisters, Myrtle Clayton of Norfolk, Va., Doris Woodard of Bessemer City, Christine Putnam of Canton; brothers, Rev. Bill Jenkins and James Jenkins of Canton. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Dutch Cove Baptist Church with the Revs. Ed Lowder and Roy Houston officiating.
Burial will be In CrawfordRay Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Wells Funeral Home, Canton, where the body will remain until placed In the church 30 minutes before the service. Memorials may be made to Haywood County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 1275, Canton, N.C. 28716.
