She died on Tuesday, February 18, 2003 at the United Retirement Center in Brookings at the age of 98 years. Opal received her education in rural school in Brookings County, SD. After receiving her education she moved into Brookings and took care of her mother for 25 years. She also worked as a babysitter for various families in the Brookings community. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church and the ALCW. She especially enjoyed sewing and baking. Opal is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers (Clifford and Robert) and two sisters (Doris and Ruth).
