MRS. ERNEST C. ANSCHUTZ
Lena Anschutz, daughter of William and Elizabeth (Knapheide)
Koetkemeyer,
was born May 5, 1889 in the Dubuque community in southeast Russell County.
She died at the City Hospital, Russell, Kansas, on March 3, 1967, at 2:45
a.m. Age 77 years, 9 months and 26 days.
A lifetime resident of Russell County, she was baptized June 10, 1899
and
on May 31, 1903, she was confirmed in the Emanuel Lutheran Church at
Dubuque. On July 20, 1910, she was joined in holy wedlock to Ernest C.
Anschutz also in the same church. This union was blessed with 7 children.
A son, George Lionel died in infancy. Active in the community life, they
reared their family and played an important role in the Dubuque-Dorrance
area until they came to Russell and established their home at 844 East 5th
Street, in 1946. Her husband, active in many civic and county affairs,
also served two terms as county Commissioner. He preceded her in death,
June 28, 1962. Since coming to Russell they were members of St. John
Lutheran Church and although enduring a lengthy illness, her devotion,
faith and love never wavered in her family, church, neighbors and friends.
To treasure and cherish her memory are: five sons and one daughter,
Harold
and Paul of Russell; Louis and Willis of Dorrance; Leo of Wilson and Mrs.
Robert (Frances) Jackman of Hill City, Kansas. Also 15 grandchildren, 5
great grandchildren, a number of other near relatives and many close
friends.
Memorial Service
After a brief family service from the Deines Funeral Home at 2:15 p.m.,
the Funeral Service was held from St. John Lutheran Church in Russell on
Sunday, March 5, 1967 at 2:30 p.m. with pastor R. G. Sedo, officiating.

Funeral services were held March 5, in St. John Lutheran Church,
Russell,
with Rev. R. G. Sedo, officiating. Music was provided by the church
choir, accompanied by Mrs. Howard Vladar, organist.
Pallbearers were Bernard Koetkemeyer, Gilbert Sprinkle, Wilbert
Anschutz,
Ralph Tittel, Willis Buehler and Leonard Stoppel.
Burial was in the Dorrance Cemetery with Deines Brothers Funeral Home,
Russell, in charge of arrangements.
