Joseph A. Akren, 63,
Phoenician 38 Years
Joseph A. Akren, 63, of 2207 N. 24th St., a carpenter, died Saturday in a Phoenix hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow in Bloom's South Phoenix Mortuary, 3800 S. Central, the Rev. Mark Carpenter of the First Church of Religious Science officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park.
Mr. Akren was born in Osage, Minn., and had lived here 38 years. He worked on the construction of Horseshoe and Bartlett dams and operated small copper and quicksilver mines. He was a member of the Carpenters Union, the Rosicrucians and the Isaac Walton League.
Surviving are three sons, Joseph of Phoenix, T h o m a s of Whittier, Calif., and Jerry of San Diego; a daughter, Mrs. Carol Stevens of Los Angeles; a sister, Mrs. Ida Renicki of Pell Lake, Wis.; a brother, Rudy of Berwyn Heights, Md.: and 11 grandchildren.
