CROWN POINT, Ind. -- Robert F. Lindenmeyer, 92, of Crown Point, formerly of Salina, Kan., passed away Saturday, April 3, 2010.
Bob was born Feb. 18, 1918, in Bazine, Kan., the son of Fred and Rachael (DeWald) Lindenmeyer. He graduated from Russell High School in 1936.
In his young days, from 1937 to 1941, he played baseball. When working in Russell, Kan., he was the Baseball Commissioner for the American Legion for six years.
On March 30, 1941, he married Hazel Korn in Salina.
He spent 44 months in the service of his country, serving 28 of those months overseas in the Pacific making four campaigns; Marshall Islands, Mariana Island, Leyte in the Philippines and Okinawa.
He served in the 31st Field Hospital and was discharged on Dec. 7, 1945.
After the war, he went to the University of Kansas and graduated with a B.S. in Pharmacy in 1950. He worked in drugstores in Abilene, Atchison and Russell, Kan., and moved back to Salina in 1967 and worked at the Mowrey Clinic until retiring in September of 1983. He then worked for other stores as a relief pharmacist until 1988, thus spending some 38 years in Pharmacy.
In 1984, he went into the ministry and attended St. Paul's School of Theology. He served two churches at Barnard and Ashgrove for four years, he then served the Barnard Church for another four years. He next served as a Chaplan at Asbury Hospital, now Salina Regional Health Center, until 2000, when he retired on his 82nd birthday.
Prior to moving to Indiana, he had been volunteering for his home church by visiting shut-ins, nursing home residents and those hospitalized.
Robert was preceded in death by his son, Jon Robert; two brothers, Chester Lindenmeyer and Duane Lindenmeyer; and a sister, Ruth Yandle. He is survived by his wife, Hazel, of Crown Point; a daughter, Pam Maud, of Crown Point; and a brother, Fred Lindenmeyer, of Wichita.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 9, at Grand Avenue United Methodist Church, 304 W. Grand Ave., Salina, KS 67401. Burial will be in Gypsum Hill Cemetery.
