Marriage note: Witnesses to Adam and Catharine`s marriage were Jacob & wife Anna Maria, church marriage performed Dec. 27, 1883. They had been married in a civil ceremony in 1868. HUSBAND--Adam John Eisenhauer: Individual note: The name is Joannes Adamus in the record. Since that is Latin the name would be John Adam. I think these old timers changed first and middle names around to suit themselfs. Adam livied across the railroad, south of Matthews. In courthouse records, his mother`s name is given as Catherine, other records say Margaretha. Karl told the story of Adam. Adam was in the German army and one of his duties was to clean the horses hooves after they came in from the parade ground. As he was cleaning one horse, it kicked at him and instinctivly he flung out his arm, stabbing the horse fatally. Knowing he would probably be hung for this, he deserted from the army and came to America. I do not know if all of the men came then. There is more which needs to be researched. (Found later, Jan.11 1997) According to a interview with Adam`s son George of Vergennes--"Adam came to the United States some time after George Jacob. Adam had to finish a term in the army. He served pme ter, amd then a rich family hired him to take their son`s place. Adam resented the rich for being able to buy their way out of the army. When he came to the U.S. he landed in New York, just as his brother George Jacob had before him.
