Carol May Murtomaki Laski
TAPIOLA ? Carol May Murtomaki Laski, 73, passed away Saturday evening, May 20, 2006, at Marquette General Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Carol was born May 10, 1933, in Baraga to the late Carl and Eva Murtomaki. She grew up on the family farm and dairy business and participated in the establishment of the Baraga Airport. She graduated from Baraga High School in 1951.
Carol retired from Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, Wash., as a personnel manager. She returned to the area of her birth and became a member of Mission United Lutheran Church in Pelkie and then joined the Ottawa Sportsman?s Club becoming membership secretary, work which she loved doing. Carol was an accomplished clarinetist and was ?first chair? while in the BHS band. Her love of music carried on throughout life. She was an avid outdoors woman and loved hunting and fishing, and was a conscious steward of the environment.
She is survived by her husband, Warren; and her loving companion ?Delilah?; two step-daughters, Jean Gaimari and Lorraine Leitner (husband, Tony) of the Chicago, Ill. area; one sister, Elisabeth Murtomaki Vidrine (husband, Earl) of Orange, Texas; and one brother, Charles Murtomaki (wife, Donna) of Bonita Calif.; four special aunts, Edna Karkanen of Chicago, Ill., Helen Winkel of Okemos, Mich., Jean Miller of Hancock, and Martha Mikkola of Marrietta, Ga.; an uncle, Uno ?Flunk? Karkanen of Saginaw, Mich.; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Her friends extend from California to Washington state, and from Idaho to Michigan and will remember the aplomb and thoroughness at all she put her hand to.
A private service will be held Saturday, May 27, 2006, by Pastor John Autio at the Mission United Lutheran Church.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Cancer Society and to the Ottawa Sportsman?s Club.
Arrangements are being handled by the Mountain View Mortuary of South Range, Antila Funeral Service, Inc.
