- [S14] Obituary.
Clara Leona Kaps, daughter of John M. and Nora A. (Penix) Trapp, was born Sept. 29, 1902 in Russell County near Bunker Hill, KS. Her death occurred Oct. 29, 1994 in the Wilson Nursing Center, Wilson, KS after several years of failing health, at the age of 92 years 1 month.
Clara attended Four Corners elementary school, Bunker Hill High School and Fort Hays Normal School. She taught in several Russell County Schools. On June 4, 1924, she married William F. Kaps, son of Robert and Emma
(Koetkemeyer) Kaps at the Trapp home south of Bunker Hill. The couple began their married life on a farm southeast of Bunker Hill. They later established a home northeast of Russell, living there until 1952 when they moved to the city of Russell.
After the death of her husband William on Aug. 16, 1968, she continued to make Russell her home until her health would no longer permit, and in 1987 she moved to the nursing home.
She was baptized and confirmed in the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Bunker Hill, later transferring her membership to St. John Lutheran Church at Russell. As a member of St. John, she devoted much of her time helping the quilting ladies. She also enjoyed her flowers and needlework, which
she shared with friends.
Those who preceded her in death were her parents John and Nora; husband Bill; a brother Wilmer Trapp; and sisters: Ida V. Mahoney and Julia R. Urban.
Survivors are her sister Lorraine Anschutz and her husband Jacob; sisters-in-law, Margaret Kaps and Freda Major; a number of nieces and nephews and other relatives and a host of friends.
The funeral service was Nov. 1, 1994 at Pohlman's Memorial Chapel in Russell, KS with the Rev. Michael Fibranz officiating. Interment in the Bunker Hill Cemetery, Bunker Hill, KS.
