We made 4 miles - had to abandon the car and walk to the railroad. We had to go north and the train when south until it backed up to go north. It took 5 hours to ride 20 miles, arrived at 5 p.m. A Justice of the Peace was called. We were married in an empty courtroom - no firends or relatives there. 3 a.m. Deb 27, 1947 we got to the Bronx.
