Full Obituary: Ulys Elbert Squeaky Whalen, age 64, of Gatlinburg, TN, passed away Thursday, August 11, 2011. Mr. Whalen grew up in Elizabethton in East Tennessee and lived in Alaska for over thirty years. He was an Army veteran and served in Vietnam. While in Alaska, he was an IBEW Communications Installer on the North Slope. Mr. Whalen was a dedicated disc golf player, custom knife-maker and enjoyed playing the harmonica. He was loved and respected by all who knew him and was always ready to lend a hand to help someone. Mr. Whalen is survived by his wife of 41 years, Ann Whalen of Gatlinburg, TN; daughter, Risha Whalen of San Jose, CA; daughter and son-in-law, Audry and Darin Patrick of Anchorage, AK; a sister ; and cousins, Janet and Rodney Arnold, Diane and Roger Moore, Aileen Pierson. The family will receive friends 4-6 PM Saturday with funeral service to follow at 6 PM in the East Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville, TN. Pastor Greg Watson will officiate.
