BIRTH: Benny was the third illegimate child of Charlotte Marie Jenkins. Benny was never told who his father was and he died not knowing his father's identity. James, Benny's older brother, and his sister Betty, were also born out of wedlock and all three children had different fathers.

In 1927 John Showalter came for a visit to Bakewell, Tennessee with his friend, John Jenkins, one of Charlotte's brothers. According to Glenna, John was quite taken with Charlotte and even asked her to marry him.
BIRTH: Glenna also reported that John Showalter returned to Bakewell in the late 60s or early 70s and enquired about Charlotte because he obviously wanted to see her again. Glenna didn't give him any information concerning Charlotte's whereabouts (she was living in Glendale, California at the time) because she didn't want to cause Charlotte, Benny or his family any problems.
